Judges award at the EAF PDI Club Championship Red kiteRed kiteRed Kite - Hard Times Sunday 4th February saw us at the East Anglian Federation (EAF) PDI Club Championship, held near Cambridge.

The East Anglian Federation (EAF) of Photographic Societies is a constituent founder Member of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), which is the parent organisation for camera clubs and photographic societies throughout the UK.

37 clubs from the region took part, each showing 25 digital (PDI) images. Our club (North Norfolk Photographic Society) came 6th overall, which was a tremendous result.

My image "Red Kite - Hard Times" scored a maximum 15 points, and I was honoured to receive the judges award from Gianpiero Ferrari, as his best image of the entire competition, and was presented with a trophy. Gianpiero is a natural history specialist and RPS Nature panel member.

Success at the Bird Photographer of the Year (BPOTY) Competition Kittiwake trailskittiwakes going down to pool to bathe Sleepy sanderlingsHigh key image Great skuas tug of warThis pair of skuas helped each other tear their puffin prey into pieces. Arctic angelArctic tern against a dark sky with backlighting Following my success in the first BPOTY, when I had two shortlisted images, I have just heard that this year I have three shortlisted and one commended image in this year's BPOTY competition. From the thousands of images entered this can be regarded as a real feather in a photographer's cap. The secret is to try to be innovative in your picture taking. Mmmm.. easier said than done sometimes!
